Where law firms leak revenue (and how an AI audit finds it)

Unbilled time, write-offs, dormant matters, and slow collections. The four leaks and how to measure them monthly.

Leak 1: Unbilled time

Time that was worked but never entered, or entered and never billed. In most firms this is the single largest leak and it's invisible until someone reconciles calendar, email, and time entries. An AI audit does that reconciliation monthly.

Leak 2: Write-offs and discounts

Courtesy discounts given at invoice time add up. Tracked per attorney and per client, patterns appear fast: certain clients always get a cut, certain matters always run over estimate.

Leak 3: Dormant matters

Open matters with no activity in 60+ days. Some are waiting on courts. Many are waiting on the client, and nobody has followed up. Each one is either revenue to recover or a file to close.

Leak 4: Slow collections

Invoices over 45 days are statistically unlikely to be paid in full without intervention. Automated, polite reminders with payment links recover a meaningful share without staff time.

Making it monthly

A one-time audit is a snapshot. The value is in the monthly cycle: the same checks, every month, with findings routed to the right person and the automations that act on them already in place.
